Short Order Made Tall Ask! Musto Drop their Affordable Shorts!!

Sitting here in the sofa, middle aged spread pressing against my latest purchase, Musto Evoltion shorts.

My main gripe with Musto is that they have given up their two MPX models of goretex shorts, which could be had for under a hundred quid, mine were a present base model. They transformed the comfort of summer sailing completely to being a far more enjoyable affair and as if by magic I also became a trendy melges sailor when I decided to wear running lycra longs under them on a cool september morning at an OD meet. They did go in the crotch a couple of times, they needed a judiciously placed bit of spinnaker tape to secure the stitching, but still seem to be waterproof after a couple of treatments in their several years of life.

I even enjoyed using them on some woodland walks when the weather was mild but wet, thus allowing jacket run off at the knee and meaning I could plonk my middle aged posterior on any old rock or log for a good sit down.

Quelle horreur when I decide my wasteline fight and concern for the home repair mean a newer pair of MPX shorts are on the xmas list. They have stopped making the older models, and gone for a pro level model which is COUGH SPLUTTER FALL OFF BAR STOOL over 200 note wi9th Lizzies etched mug shot on them.

THe MPX short has been upgraded and a new " quick dry" short has snuck in. Well on the oft' wet deck and gunwhale of a schmelges 24 I would prefer KEEP DRY to the rapid evapouration, leaving also my undies to be dry and allowing thus the use of cotton undies which can be comfier than technical briefs on warmer days.

Must MPX black and charcoal shorts with the wee flying dutchman trade mark on them were the de rigeurre lower apparel of the racing devotee. They kept your powder dry, and were breathable enough to be comfy aided by what every Scotsman knows best, that some air up yer nether regions is better than the dearest saville row silk at a wedding. My entry level pair lack the nice wee bo/wat on them and any decent pockets, but this meant they were a very rail to rail flail freindly garb' because there was nothing to cathc on, apart from as I found out last time out, the large belt loop in the middle of the crack zone......

In the EU it seems that there are  no other goretex shorts available and it looked like Henri Lloyds TP shorties were not readily available and were over a hundred squid anyways.  I was squarely on the fence until my local sport shop had first a 40% off evilution shorts in blue or grey beige and then upped it to 50% making for a pant which given exchange rate today, was not much over fifty. Good value for money. Not excellent, but good. Despite having a fancy cordura style seat patch, I am still sceptical as to how comfy they will be compared to my previouusly fully parched buttocks and well aired leg combination. Over a pilke of 20 lady go divers is just way too dear for something which is not goretex or TP2. So thumbs down to Musto on the pricing, and the evidence has not even been presented for the jury to begin thinking about going out for a verdict.
