Year Out. . Over and Out

The year out i had meant to take happened. It took of course 18 months due to the winter. .back and althnough a little rusty i am getting into it now . . and i didnt get any thinner really btw.

Year out must be had by anyone with over ten years experience. I've been racing 20 years this year and kind of taken my first ever shit on it all year out apart from maybe 2004 , i cant remember if it was then i raced the beneteau 25 in bergen or not.

So a year out over and i kind of was apprehensive about being very rusty, but some flakey points aside, it has helped a lot with my concentration and startegic thinking. Most of all it has given me a true perspective on my learning curve. Where am i -? Well further than i thought because I am relaxed and curious about the next stage of understanding more on wind shifts, bends, lifts, tidal effects and of course starts.

After this year out, my stage on the learning currve no longer seems a frustrating ceiling, bounded by not having any cash, capital or credit to buy my own boat. The problem was my own perspective and also i just hadnt a team to sail with. People here are very established.

So it is to be recommended to not only take a year out, but try a new club or class or both!

I came back as planned, both these provisios in place. . . and in style coming into the local melges fleet for wednesdays. Weekends are off bounds due to one whole one on a dinnghy instructor course and a sunday on windward mark duties.

In style big time. The local melges here are all older boats,  the lady i am on is an english madam made at BAE actually. Kevlar sails which seem way over engineered. More in the next blog on melges 24.

I needed some luck in life and four nights in a row came my way on a fun set up who can learn ffrom me too.
