Melges Weekend : Amateur Pearl Now

I am glad to have had my first weekend with decent one design racing in a very, very long time.

6 melges, oen a bit behind but with a bit of focus any of the top four boats could have won.

I'd say the owners and syndicates reflected the actual results: those taking it a bit seriously and looking the part one-two-three, we in a little undeserved 4th and the other two being followers.

One thing about the melges though at this level, and we are talking early BAE boats and some Devottis I believe, is that the boats are both affordable for private or sydnicate owners and are strudy enough to have lasted the time: they are in effect a little overengineered in the mast, hull and foils with deck wear simple enough to change out without huge expense.

So my opinion has not just softened on the melges 24 as an overpriced posers boat, but changed completely. It is a good proposition for club level now with boats at around 15000 euros. It is an affordable posers boat!
