Okay, yeah I suppose I should note down a learning-log, stardate september 23 post melges regatta and day after training day
1) spinnaker is a heck of a lot on the boat. Good Start and A Good Spinnaker to sail to the luff curl and power you onto the plane. Pity the spinnie is not strict OD.
2) more on spinnaker:
a) it is probably best to fall off at the weather mark to 140' in mid winds, higher in light, lower in force 5-6.
b) Then get the kite up like a sausage in the shadow of the main with little if any tack line pre-feed.
c) Once up, out with prodder and tack line fast on.
d) pay attention to where the clew is and if the foot is taught or not:
e) with respect to d( , luff up for a fill with the corner a little slack from a flat foot and then let the sail fill, hold course and allow the trimmer to set it on the sheet tension and luff curl
f) call for more or less pressure from the trimmer
g) reconsider the tactical situation and the COG vs TWA vs leeward mark center bearing.
A bit like a dinghy hoist but with the pole not being out / guyed up.
3) The skipper is too heavy on the rudder off wind and too fast into and out of gybes
4) Take the main late or centre it to let the kite fly through the gybe
5) take down at the right time or do a windward drop in light ( under 6 knts) Windward is ideal on port roundings.
6) our skipper has poor attention to the main sail and does not understand the basics
7) our skipper in additiona to 6) is rough through the tacks
8) we take too many tacks : we do not predict tactical situations. Sitt too long under boats.
9) skipper wont listen to strategy and sails into wind shadow and wind-lift near points/islands.
10) we on the rail do not see the compass enough
11) the skipper does not understand course trigonometry!
