A couple of hours to go before wednesday warfare on that most over rated of boats, the Melges 24.
I really fail to see that it justifies all the hype ! I think the sshcplatu actually planes / semi planes in less wind althought the M24 can take a lot of wind and go over 20knts.
Fun it is, and l prefer I think, hiking out on the belly strap to what would be sitting in on a Cork 1720 or SB3/20. I am not suprised the Cork took away the shine of the M24: it was cheaper and not much slower what so ever, even if it does look like a bath tub for the elderly.
I have honestly had as much thrill in a hunter 707 blasting away at 12-14 than in a Melges 24 at 14-16 knots. And the little Platu is a more refined boat upwind with more for the crew to do and a higher boom.
Anyway, now that 10m/s 20knts wind has started to blow up with an offland direction whcih will give us some gusts to super-plane on so that is it. Some grin factor.
As in the job this week, I feel i am "low plateuing" in terms of performance and movement forward. However I did get through my instructor practical with some elite Europe dinghy sailors instead of Oppies and I have to my own satisfaction come a very long way into my new career and sailing team this year!
